EEI Continues to Monitor Hurricane Fiona's Impact on Puerto Rico's Energy Grid

WASHINGTON (September 18, 2022) — Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Senior Vice President of Security and Preparedness Scott Aaronson today issued the following statement:

"EEI is closely monitoring Hurricane Fiona and is coordinating across the sector, with the Department of Energy, and with LUMA Energy to ensure that we have the open channels of communication needed to maintain situational awareness of the hurricane's impact on Puerto Rico's energy grid.

"Initial damage assessments will get underway once the hurricane has cleared the island and it is safe for crews to be in the field. U.S. electric companies on the mainland will continue to engage with our government partners and system operators in Puerto Rico throughout the assessment and restoration process.

"Ensuring the safety of customers, communities, and crews is our industry’s highest priority. We are committed to helping LUMA Energy ensure that it has the resources needed for a safe and efficient restoration."
