Overview

The electric power industry is responsible for more than 7 million American jobs in communities large and small. From supporting new skills training to STEM education to resources for veterans, women, youth, and adults, the industry is creating long-term solutions and driving employment for a skilled, diverse workforce in the future.

Key Facts

Inclusion & Belonging

EEI’s member companies are committed to fostering inclusive workplaces and supporting broader community engagement across our industry. Building on programs and work already underway at electric companies, EEI launched an industry-wide initiative in September 2020 that integrates workforce development and inclusion and belonging priorities into one strategic initiative.

By supporting this initiative, member companies have agreed to:

  • Promote fairness and opportunity in the workplace and ensure these efforts are driven from the top.
  • Increase awareness and access to employment opportunities in the communities we serve.
  • Build a workforce that is reflective of a wide range of experiences and perspectives.
  • Take measurable actions to close gaps in opportunity and improve support for those facing economic challenges.

Measuring Our Progress

To participate in EEI’s initiative, member companies committed to implement at least three recommended actions that support our industry goals. The industry goals are:

  • Ensure efforts are driven from the top.
  • Remove barriers to entry by expanding and broadening the candidate pool.
  • Build stronger community connections.
  • Establish infrastructure academies and training programs.
