EEI Statement on Labor-Rail Negotiations

EEI Statement on Labor-Rail Negotiations

WASHINGTON (September 14, 2022) — Edison Electric Institute (EEI) President Tom Kuhn today issued the following statement:

“EEI and our member electric companies welcome this morning’s news that tentative agreements have been reached to prevent a national rail shutdown. The U.S. freight rail system is critical to national and global supply chains and to many sectors of our nation’s economy, including the electric power sector. A rail strike would have created significant challenges for our industry, our customers, and our nation’s economy, and we are pleased that this crisis was averted.

“Our industry values the strong partnership we share with organized labor, and we congratulate the rail unions and rail companies for coming together to avoid disruption, while also balancing the needs of their employees and customers. We urge all parties to continue to work toward a final resolution.”
