The site navigation utilizes arrow, enter, escape, and space bar key commands. Left and right arrows move across top level links and expand / close menus in sub levels. Up and Down arrows will open main level menus and toggle through sub tier links. Enter and space open menus and escape closes them as well. Tab will move on to the next part of the site rather than go through menu items.

EEI is proud to join the Center for Energy Workforce Development (CEWD) in celebrating Careers in Energy Week, which is observed from October 21 to 25 this year. Careers in Energy Week was created by CEWD to recognize and raise awareness of energy careers and their importance to the nation.

The electric power industry supports more than 7 million American jobs, or about 1 in every 20 American jobs. EEI’s member companies play a vital part in maintaining a robust economy. From supporting new skills training to providing STEM education to students and resources for veterans, women, youth, and adults, the industry is creating long-term solutions and driving employment for a skilled, diverse future workforce.

Jobs in the electric power industry provide more than just good pay and benefits – they offer a long, fulfilling career path. On average, employees work in the industry for more than 15 years, in careers that support their families and anchor them in their communities.

Learn more about some of the different types of energy careers available in the electric power industry:

  • Lineworker: Lineworkers build and maintain the energy grid and stand ready to make emergency repairs to ensure that customers have access to the safe and reliable energy they need to stay connected and to power their lives. Learn how to become a lineworker.
  • Plant Operator: Plant operators are responsible for keeping power plants running safely and efficiently. They are in charge of operating, controlling, and monitoring the equipment that generates electricity. Learn how to become a plant operator.
  • Transmission and Distribution Technician: Transmission and distribution technicians perform routine operations at substations. They also inspect and test equipment to identify problems using special wiring diagrams and testing devices. Learn how to become a transmission and distribution operator.

Visit the GetIntoEnergy website, managed by CEWD, to learn more about energy careers, the benefits they provide, and the pathway to getting a job in the energy industry.
