EEI, APTA Announce Participation in the White House’s EV Acceleration Challenge

WASHINGTON (March 30, 2023) — The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) today announced their participation in the White House’s electric vehicle acceleration challenge.

EEI and APTA have been working together to develop a resource guide for transit agencies to help streamline their efforts to electrify bus fleets. The guide was designed to help transit agencies partner with their local electric companies early in the electrification process to deploy electric transit buses as efficiently and cost effectively as possible. This partnership is crucially important regardless of whether transit agencies are pursuing a pilot project for a few buses or embarking on full electrification.

“EEI and our member companies are committed to delivering resilient clean energy across our economy, and we are excited about all of the work underway to use that energy to reduce emissions from the transportation sector,” said EEI President Tom Kuhn. “We are thankful to APTA for its partnership in developing a resource guide to help transit agencies get off to a fast start as they work to electrify their bus fleets. This guide, combined with funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is going to play a large role in accelerating the electrification of transit buses across the country.”

The guide provides a detailed checklist of questions and information that transit agencies should gather when engaging electric companies. It also includes a glossary of the terminology that transit agencies are likely to encounter during the electrification process.

“Federal funding for electrification, a critical step in enhancing our environment, is set to transform bus fleets across America,” said APTA President Paul Skoutelas. “We’re excited to partner with EEI to develop resources that will help our members plan and prepare for this transition to zero-emission fleets.”
