WASHINGTON (May 05, 2025) — The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today announced that Executive Vice President Phil Moeller will be stepping down later this month to pursue a new opportunity in the energy sector.
Moeller joined EEI after serving two distinguished terms as a Commissioner at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, where he was nominated by President George W. Bush and reappointed by President Barack Obama—a testament to his unparalleled expertise and respected leadership across political lines. Throughout his career, Moeller has built deep, enduring relationships across the electric sector, federal and state agencies, and the broader energy community.
During his tenure at EEI, Moeller has been instrumental in promoting policies to strengthen grid resilience, enhance regulatory frameworks, and ensure critical investment in the infrastructure that powers America's energy transition.
“Phil Moeller's impact on EEI and our industry has been profound,” said EEI interim President and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn. “His strategic vision, regulatory expertise, and collaborative approach have helped our member companies navigate complex challenges while continuing to deliver reliable and affordable electricity to customers. We are grateful for his dedicated service and look forward to his continued leadership in the energy sector.”
“It has been an extraordinary honor to serve EEI's member companies and help advance the electric sector's leadership at such a pivotal time,” said Moeller. “I am deeply proud of the progress we've made together as a team and grateful for the trust and collaboration of our members, my colleagues, and stakeholders across the energy ecosystem. The electric power industry plays an essential role in America's economy and security, and I remain deeply committed to its continued success.”
Moeller expressed enthusiastic support for EEI’s new leadership under President and CEO Drew Maloney. “I am excited to fully support Drew Maloney as he leads EEI into its next chapter,” Moeller said. “Drew is a proven leader, and I am confident he will guide EEI and its members to even greater success.”
This summer Moeller plans to spend time with his 18-year-old twins as they prepare to begin college, before taking on a new role in the energy sector.
