NEW ORLEANS (June 03, 2025) — The Edison Electric Institute (EEI) today presented the 2025 Thomas F. Farrell, II Safety Leadership and Innovation Award to Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) Transmission and Substation Safety Coordinator James Hamilton; Consumers Energy; and Ontario Power Generation.
“EEI and our member companies are proud to recognize this year’s award recipients for their unwavering commitment to developing health and safety initiatives that support our world-class workforce,” said EEI interim President and CEO Pat Vincent-Collawn. “This year’s awardees continue Tom Farrell’s legacy of advancing new strategies and technologies that reduce injuries and save lives.”
The recipients were selected for the following achievements across three categories:
- Member Company Employee Leader: FPL Transmission and Substation Safety Coordinator James Hamilton for enhancing workplace safety and reducing injuries.
- Member Company Project: Consumers Energy for a novel application of automated CPR technology that is helping save lives in its wind tower rescue program.
- International Member Project: Ontario Power Generation for creating innovative remote Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) sensors that continuously monitor environmental conditions and heat stress in real time, enhancing worker safety and supporting better work planning.
Named after former Dominion Energy executive Tom Farrell, who passed away in April 2021, the award recognizes the contributions of leadership and innovation to the advancement of safety in the energy industry. Farrell served as Dominion Energy’s chairman, president, and CEO from 2007 to 2020. Recipients of the award are selected by a panel consisting of leadership from the labor, contractor, and academic communities; regulatory agencies; and EEI senior leadership.
